Individuals are eligible for Medicare benefits 24 months after their disability award from Social Security. The Social Security Administration will send out a packet through the mail several months before this date with information regarding enrollment. Claimants also have the option to enroll during the Fall Open Enrollment from October 15th to December 7th of every year. During this time claimants currently on Medicare should review and make changes to their health coverage. If claimants enroll during this period, their coverage starts January 1.
